"A portrait of my daughters, once a week, every week, in 2014."

Eulalie: peek-a-boo!
Marguerite: I can't believe she's almost half-way through her first year. Craziness!

turn around

Friday, 21 February 2014

You wouldn't believe the humidity here. Stepping outside is like being wrapped in a hot, wet blanket.

So between the ghastly weather and post-holiday blues, I've been feeling largely uninspired. I think I've spent far too long looking at my own photography this week (editing professional work is all consuming) and subsequently became hypercritical of my creative capabilities . I was feeling frustrated.

But then a friend sent a link to a little movie which provided some much needed encouragement. So today I'm turning my mood around.

I think I'll go and visit Mum. I'll stop and byfrappĂ© on the way. I'll take some photos. Take the girls for a swim. Perhaps stop and buy flowers on the way home.

What are your Friday plans? How are you feeling this week?

"A portrait of my daughters, once a week, every week, in 2014."

Eulalie: Disheveled and lost in her own little (magical fairy) world. (Thanks to my friend Savanah for capturing a quiet moment amidst the chaos of twenty fairies flying free in our backyard!)

Marguerite: Yep, she loves it. Clearly.

tasmania in pictures | cradle mountain

Friday, 14 February 2014

Cradle Mountain is a definite must-do for nature-lovers. There's plenty of walks to choose from; I highly recommend the Dove Lake Circuit if you are travelling with kids. Allow yourself half a day and take a packed picnic lunch to enjoy at one of the little beaches dotted around the waters edge.

Paddy carried Lalie in the Ergo some of the way, but she easily walked half of the way around by herself (there were plenty of shoulder rides, too!). Little Marguerite missed the whole thing - she was tucked away in the sling like a little joey where she slept for the entire time.

We were spoilt with an absolutely perfect day to enjoy the awe-inspiring scenery. Clear blue skies, warm sunshine and crisp, pure mountain air... Cradle Mountain, you were pretty hard to beat.

Monday, 10 February 2014

Wowzers... the 10th already? That month just evaporated! I may have cheated a little this month by including a few photos from the same hour... I'm still trying to adjust back into normal life and get on top of the washing pile (not an easy feat when your washing machine is broken!).

After reading your comments on my January entry, I should probably clarify that this project wasn't my idea. I have seen a few bloggers participating but I've found it hard to pinpoint where it started. If anyone knows who I should credit, please let me know!

"A portrait of my daughters, once a week, every week, in 2014."

Eulalie: "If you jump in muddy puddles, you must wear your boots!"
Marguerite: I wonder if I'll manage to get a single photo of her this year without her sister sneaking in frame...

I love the grey textures and small pops of colour in these captures. Lalie's beautiful linen top was a gift from her Aunty Steph... from Dee's beautiful new label une belle epoque. It's equally fit for jumping in puddles as it would be for attending a wedding; practical and beautiful.

Tasmania in pictures | Bruny Island

Thursday, 6 February 2014

We spent a couple of days on Bruny Island, a spectacular part of the world that we'd definitely like to revisit one day and explore a little further. We didn't brave the water even though it looked so beautiful and inviting; those turquoise waves were too icy for us Queenslanders... even in mid-summer!

We stopped for freshly shucked oysters and then again a few meters down the road for artisan cheese (made on the island) and the most delicious wood fired baguettes. We sat around the campfire, slurping back beer and oysters and listening to waves and birdsong. It was a trip highlight for me, bettered only by our visit to Cradle Mountain (photos to come!).
